Ask Your IT Reports to Explain a Business Result

A report full of patch counts and ticket totals can leave an owner unsure whether technology is helping the business. Technical activity matters, but it needs context.

Choose a few measures connected to operations: recurring interruptions, time to prepare a new hire, recovery test results, or delays caused by unreliable applications. Review the direction of travel and ask what action follows from each measure. Use a consistent baseline so changes are meaningful.

Some improvements will be difficult to assign an exact dollar value. Describe those limits honestly. A useful service review helps leaders understand what improved, what remains unresolved, and where the next investment could make the clearest difference.
