Estimate Downtime in Ranges, Then Use the Result

Operations manager and finance director assessing the impact of downtime.

An outage affects more than the equipment that stopped working. Employees may wait, orders may slow, and someone must spend time restoring normal operations.

Build a simple estimate using affected staff time, likely disruption to sales or delivery, and recovery expenses. Separate revenue that is delayed from revenue that is likely lost, and avoid counting the same impact twice. Use low and high scenarios instead of presenting an uncertain number as precise.

Compare those ranges with the cost of practical improvements. The purpose is to make better decisions about resilience, connectivity, and recovery priorities. Even a modest estimate can clarify why a recurring interruption deserves attention.
