Write the Exit Plan Before Allowing Personal Devices

Advanced Managed IT Technology ยท Archive date: April 30, 2025

HR lead and employee reviewing work access on a personal smartphone.

Personal phones can make business communication convenient. They also raise a practical question: when someone leaves, how will company information and access be removed without unnecessarily affecting personal content?

Document approved uses before allowing access. Explain device requirements, account protections, support boundaries, and what management controls the business will apply. Choose tools that can separate work information where practical, and make sure employees understand the process before enrollment.

Test the departure workflow with IT and HR. A clear policy should cover lost devices and role changes as well as resignations. Thinking through the exit helps you make better decisions about access at the beginning.
